PDisp - Assessment of Loading Induced Ground Displacement

Oasys PDisp is a tool that provides an easy-to-use, yet powerful and robust methods to analyse ground movements due to pressure and heave loading. PDisp is a core component of our Ground Movement Bundle and Geotechnical Suite, both in Pro and Basic versions.

Oasys PDisp

Oasys PDisp allows users to assess ground movements resulting from pressure in their projects, and therefore control, limit and/or mitigate any excessive ground displacements which could detrimentally affect existing or future assets.

Why should I buy it?

Civil and geotechnical engineers responsible for routine ground movement assessments such as in earthworks’ design use Oasys PDisp as it provides a validated, robust and user-friendly method of calculations, ensuring acceptable and appropriate QA and QC standards are met. Combined with Oasys XDisp, geotechnical engineers can undertake comprehensive building and utilities damage assessments.

Analyse ground movements due to pressure:

  1. Oasys PDisp calculates displacements (and stresses if required) within a linear elastic or non-linear soil mass, arising from uniform normal or tangential pressure, applied to rectangular, polygonal and circular loaded planes.
  2. PDisp calculates time-rate 1D consolidation for linear problems using the finite difference approach.
  3. PDisp is ideal for predicting the displacements that may arise due to the action of several loads in a soil mass.
  4. PDisp can be used with Oasys XDisp to run building and utility damage assessments.

Capabilities of PDisp

With PDisp, you can perform  consolidation settlement analysis (instantaneous, primary and secondary). This feature is particularly useful for engineers investigating the behaviour of clay and organic soils and when working with raft foundations.

Watch this webinar to find out more.

What does PDisp do with its consolidation settlement?

PDisp calculates instantaneous settlement in the drained and undrained soils, it will then calculate its primarily consolidation in the undrained soils. There are two options for the user;

  • mv Method (linear)
  • Cc Method (non-linear) – considers normally consolidated soils and over-consolidated soils

PDisp can also then calculate the secondary consolidation in the undrained soil.

PDisp uses the COM (Component Object Model) interface in a number of innovative ways some examples include carrying out sensitivity analyses and automating outputs to produce comparison graphs. COM interface allows users to create data objects that allow external programs to pass information and instructions to and from our Geotechnical programs. COM has already been used in research and it will speed up the analyses in your geotechnical projects.

COM is already an established utility in other Oasys programs including Frew and Alp, engineers have used it to quickly access specific outputs across multiple programs, such as running sensitivity analysis and iterate between analysis results and other programs.

If you are considering using COM with your programs our customer support team and internal developers can assist you with linking application together. Contact us to find out more.

Boussinesq and Mindlin Options available for elastic analysis of the soil mass.

A number of horizontal soil layers may be specified, although the base of the bottom layer is assumed to be rigid.

A linear variation of modulus with level may be specified for each soil layer.

Displacements and stresses may be calculated for any soil layer.

Irregular shaped loads can be modelled

Loaded areas can be superimposed and can be specified to act at different levels.

Loads can be normal or tangential, and can act on both horizontal and vertical planes.

The 3D Output Window enables the user to show settlements clearly for presentation in reports.

Settlements can be plotted along Displacement Lines.

Oasys PDisp can be combined with Oasys XDisp to carry out Building and Utility Damage Assessments.

Both Subscription options will allow you the right to use the software for the defined term, with the full maintenance and support service included for the duration. The price will be fixed for the duration of the agreed term after which it will automatically renew for the same duration at the then current price.

12 month pay annually – Single payment for the full term at the commencement of the Subscription period

36 month pay annually – Three annual payments split the cost over the Subscription period. All payments are fixed at the time of purchase and are not subject to variance over time. Lower annual cost in comparison to 12 month option.

"MassMotion was really important in planning how we kept the station running smoothly during Renovations. We needed to make sure that we understood the way passengers were moving around the station so we didn’t run into any crowd control issues."
